Best of Holland Ride

Published at November 22, 2023

“Why I rode so little by a seaside this year?” - stroke me one day, so I planned this ride which turned out to be absolutely magnificent. What I usually do - put my bike in the trunk, drive to some quiet location and then do a circle enjoying the views as much as I can from under the sweat in my eyes. Let’s start with a spoiler.

It happens that I know perfect spot with free parking just near both the seaside and tulip fields. As it was September already, tulips, obviously were not the case, but hey, still free parking! As a bonus there is a kiosk that sells flowers from the farm and this time they were selling bulbs as well. Hope they will grow.

Parking Location

Very soon I reached beach entrance called “Nederzandt”. It sits between Zandvoort and Noordwijk cities. It is accessible by car, so it’s still quite busy, but not that much as those two cities can be sometimes.

But if you’re biking and want a much quieter beach experience, go north from there and you’ll have several beach entrances which only little people reach. That’s actually where I was heading. Cycle path goes through the dunes and offers you some tiny ups, downs and nice views.

Soon I reached Zandvoort. It’s the place where Dutch GP was held about a month ago. They still had grand stand and probably some other event was going on as the air was filled with buzzing sound of angry racing cars tackling those corners.

There is a spot near a bike lane from which you can take a peek. You won’t see much of a race track, but this is still a chance to make a cool photo of your bike.

Just near the entrance to the track there is a BMW Driving Experience location. You can stare at M-charged bimmers doing donuts, oversteering and emergency stops.

At that point I stopped messing around and started to pick up speed and eat distance. My path lead me trough the forest, fields, parks and small towns. Remember I told this was no season for tulips? In The Netherlands every season is a flower season.

And canals of course.

If my planning skills serves me well, I should be reaching Noordwijk town close to the sunset. Which I did and was rewarded with great light for another bike shot.

The rest you know. Short ride through the dunes again and back to the parking lot. Pack the bike into the trunk and walk happily to meet the sunset on the beach.
